Safe winter hiking

The most important facts in a nutshell

🏔️ Altitude metres & distance: don't choose a tour that is too long! Hiking in winter - especially when there is snow - is more strenuous than in the warmer months.

🧭 Orientation: Snow, ice and cold should not be underestimated. Stay on the marked winter hiking trails! Winter hiking trails are regularly groomed, checked and marked throughout.

🌨️ Weather forecast: Check the weather forecast and plan enough time. The days are shorter and the sun sets in the late afternoon in winter.

🎒 Onion look: Dress in layers so that your body stays dry and is protected from hypothermia: breathable functional underwear that absorbs sweat, warm clothing such as fleece or down and a jacket that keeps out wind, moisture and cold.

🥾 Equipment: Snow and waterproof hiking boots are a must-have on the mountain! Medium-strength, high leather mountain boots with a grippy and, above all, stiff rubber tread sole that offers good grip in ice and snow are best. Sheep or lambswool insoles insulate and provide warmth. Tea or water, mobile phone, maps/GPS device and a first aid kit belong in every rucksack.
