Fuorcla Curschiglias über den Schäfersteig

The hike begins at the guest information center, following the village street. After passing Hotel Post, turn left, and then take another left at Hotel Bündnerhof, crossing the bridge over the Maisasbach. Immediately afterward, the gentle ascent through the forest begins, leading to the Motta Saltuorn sledding hut and further to the viewpoint overlooking Val Motnaida, where you can see Samnaun Dorf and Piz Ot. Passing by the impressive avalanche barriers, the view opens up over the entire Samnaun Valley. On the opposite side of the valley, you can see the Silvretta Arena with the imposing peaks of Flimspitz and Bürkelkopf from a distance. After a slightly exposed passage through Val da Chierns—this path is also known as the "Shepherd's Trail" among the locals—the route continues comfortably via Motta Foppazins to Piz Mezdi, where the view of Val Sampuoir unfolds. From the border ridge between the municipalities of Samnaun and Valsot, the path descends to Fuorcla Curschiglias. From here, you can choose to descend toward Samnaun-Compatsch either via the forest road or directly down over Magnüda.
