Since 2018, Galtür has been at the centre of cross-country skiing at the end of March. This year's Galtür Nordic Volumes (27 - 29 March) once again saw world-class athletes at the start alongside many amateur athletes. First and foremost cross-country skier Teresa Stadlober, who came 4th in the World Championships this year.

After a long World Cup season, the cross-country skiing year has now also come to an end in Austria, in the Paznaun - Ischgl tourist region, with the Galtür Nordic Volumes. After the Nordic Sprint Race on Thursday, the cross-country climb on Saturday was all about the local titles.

Lisa Achleitner and Alexander Brandner secure Austrian championship titles

Light snowfall on Saturday in Galtür. But the 350 participants in the Austrian Championships didn't seem to mind. There are just under 37 kilometres and over 900 metres of altitude to conquer from Galtür to the Bielerhöhe and back. Tyrolean Lisa Achleitner (Llc Region Angerberg) secured victory in the women's Galtür Nordic Volumes with a lead of almost 1 ½ minutes and thus also the championship title. Behind the German Alexandra Danner, 18-year-old Heidi Bucher (Nordic Team Absam) finished in an excellent 3rd place. The favourite Teresa Stadlober was unable to challenge for victory, as the last few weeks with the World Championships and World Cup finals have used up the Salzburg native's last reserves.

In the men's race on Saturday, Alexander Brandner from SC Bischofshofen was in a class of his own. He secured victory, including the championship title, by more than 3 minutes ahead of Kilian Kehrer (SC Böhmerwald) and Philip Wieser (WSV Traisen)

Niklas Walcher (USV Grossarl) and the German Franziska Müller were the fastest on the short course. Results

Exciting duels between sprinters & young athletes

The 6th edition of the Galtür Nordic Sprint Race took place on Thursday. The spectacular course in Galtür leads over 1,050 metres and also demands everything from the sprint specialists.

German world champion Laura Gimmler was once again in a class of her own in the final. She wins the women's event ahead of compatriot Verena Veit. Best Austrian is Heidi Bucher (Nordic Team Absam) in third place. Teresa Stadlober is also strong. Although the sprint is not her favourite discipline, she achieved a good result in 4th place. Italian Giacomo Gabrielli won the men's race ahead of Austrian Kilian Kehrer (Ski Union Böhmerwald), while Fabian Lindsberger (LRC Lienzer Dolomiten) was unlucky, crashing shortly before the finish in a promising position and finishing fourth behind German Leonhard Pfund. On Friday, hundreds of children and teenagers took part in the Kids Race in Galtür. And that's not all; before the race, the promising young athletes were introduced to the Nordic popular sport at the cross-country skiing camp specially designed for children, including a fun course and training with pros from the Austrian cross-country skiing scene.

In addition to the races, cross-country skiing enthusiasts were able to inspect and test the latest equipment in the Expo Area from Thursday to Saturday, including equipment from partners of the tourism association such as Fischer Sports, gloryfy and LEKI.

Positive results

The Galtür Nordic Volumes was once again one of the sporting highlights of the season. TVB Chairman Alexander von der Thannen: "Cross-country skiing is becoming more and more popular, even though skiing is still the number one winter tourism activity. But our guests are looking for sporting alternatives and with the Galtür & Ischgl cross-country skiing region, we offer these with 77 kilometres of trails and guaranteed snow until April."

Co-organiser SC Silvretta Galtür, under the direction of Andreas Kathrein, said: "Year after year, we are particularly pleased to welcome numerous top athletes as well as amateur skiers to the end of the season. We look forward to seeing you again next year in Galtür."
The next edition of the Galtür Nordic Volumes will take place from 26-28 March 2026.
